Okere Urhobo To Get New Oroseun' As Leaders Embrace Peace

By Ese Adagbra.

Delta State Government has assured that based on the attitude displayed by leaders of Okere Urhobo Kingdom during the presentation of the draft White Paper put together to resolve the crisis rocking the kingdom on the process of installing a new King " Oroseun'" " I'm very sure that a new King which be acceptable by all  the leaders since both the Okpako Orere and the 3 Ruling Houses will be involved in the selection and installation processes I think there will be a lasting peace in the Kingdom" However" It is the people who chose their King and present him to Government.Government only comes in where there is crisis and advise that due process should be follow to ensure peace" These are the words of Chief Edwin Uzor, Special Assistant to Governor Okowa on Conflict Resolution and Peace Building and also Chairman of the Delta State Committee, To look into the succession crisis of Oroseunship of Okere Urhobo Kingdom. While addressing leaders of the Kingdom in Government House Annex Warri,in Company of Mr Micheal Tidi, Chairman Warri South Local Government Council and other members of Committee,

Chief Uzor who read from the draft copy of the White Paper which he said will be ready in a week time, said some of key resolutions are that the Okere Urhobo Kingdom belongs to all sons and daughters of the kingdom therefore " Core problem of one man dictatorship" cannot stand.Rather the Okpako Orere and 3 Ruling Houses must be involved in the process of installing the king " Oroseun'" of the Kingdom just as the Otota is also recognize by the government:,but he cannot do it alone without consultation of the Okpako Orere. The Youth body is now under the President General and no longer under Oroseun'in Council. He however urged those who went to courts to withdraw their cases from the courts since efforts are already on to resolve all issues affecting the Kingship.

All Leaders of the Kingdom,Chiefs, Wilson Eboh, Emmanuel Okumagba, Gideon Okumagba and Victor Okumagba hailed the resolutions of the Government and described it as a working document which will bring lasting peace to the Kingdom.

Speaking to newsmen,Chief Edwin Uzor said from his experience " The cause of the problem is dictatorship which I have advised that they should jettison! You and I are owners of a stool and you want to take it alone it cannot work. Whatever position you find yourself today it is by the grace of God.When you fight Okpako Orere today, others will fight you tomorrow when it gets to your turn"

For Chief Gideon Okumagba expressed satisfaction  with the White Paper in as much it has address the issue of the installation of the Oroseun'and expressed his readiness to work the Okpako Orere in as much toes from the other side  are ready to work with him as well." I'm satisfy with the resolutions of the Government most especially when it talks about the authority use in installing our new King! With the inclusion of our elders especially the Okako Orere! Not a situation when the Otota with some few Chiefs who are mostly of female descendants.I think this is the time for us to sit down and do the proper thing "
Chief Emmanuel Okumagba, President General of the Kingdom said the Government position is something that can take the Kingdom to a better tomorrow and advised all" Combantants" to think about to future of the kingdom rather " We must stop thinking of ourselves! Struggle for power, struggle for control of the small financies of the kingdom that makes people run riot" He however expressed reservation on the conduct of the Youths Elections under his office.

Chief Honourable Victor Okumagba, Executive Assistant to Governor Okowa on Conflict Resolution and Peace Building, said that the Committee has been working since October last year.He expressed satisfaction on the report of the Committee after what he described as " Rigorous and painstaking job" Since it addressed the" Core Issue which says that one man cannot unilaterally install the king. The report has tackle it and reverse it that it is the duty of the 3 Ruling Houses to do that I'm happy. We can now go home and sit together to do the needful"
Chief Wilson Eboh also expressed his satisfaction on the report and said" When the final copy is out we are going to study it and see  how we can work with it"

The Chief Uzor led Committee seems to have finally put paid to the crisis rocking the kingship (Oroseun') of Okere Urhobo Kingdom where there have been petitions and counter petitions. However those who have been calling for due process in the selection process of installing the king of Okere Urhobo Kingdom seems to have won the battle because their agitation is that both the Okpako Orere and the 3 Ruling Houses must have a say and input in the selection and installation process of the new king and what they term" One man show" The Delta State Government has finally do justice to their case.
