*CEPEJ Applauds Gov. Okowa for Delta State 2020 Citizens Budget*
*Urges Govt to Focus More on Devt of Coastal/Riverine Areas*
A Non Governmental Organization NGO known as Center for Peace and Environmental Justice, CEPEJ has lauded the Delta State Governor Dr Ifeanyi Okowa for presenting to the public on Wednesday April 29, 2020 the Citizens Budget for the year 2020 christened Budget for Sustained Development.
CEPEJ in a statement made available to newsmen via his social media platforms said that the participatory Citizens Budget which was presented by the state commissioner for Economic Planning, Dr Barry Pere Gbe has a total summary of N395.5b with a deficit of N50.5b and a total revenue and grant of N344.9b with funds spread across all sectors and senatorial districts of the state.
The Non Governmental Organization CEPEJ which was invited alongside other NGO's and CSO's applauded Governor Ifeanyi Okowa and his economic team headed by the Commissioner for Economic Planning Dr Barry Pere Gbe for organizing the state participatory Citizens Budget and also involving the citizens in the the scheme of things.
CEPEJ however charged the Delta State Government to allocate more funds to the health sector, especially now when the country is combating the dreaded coronavirus pandemic that is ravaging the world.
The NGO also charged the state government to site developmental projects in the coastal and riverine communities in the state, which it said were mostly marginalized in budgetary allocation.
CEPEJ Programme Manager Mr Samuel Ideh represented the NGO at the event which was held at the Unity Hall Government House Asaba and had civil commissioners, permanent secretaries, heads of MDAs, members of the Delta State House of Assembly, civil society organization, traditional rulers, private individuals, corporate organizations, professional bodies, NGOs among other stakeholders in attendance.
