IJAW CHIEF CALLS ON STATE GOVT TO SEND FREE FACE MASKS TO RIVERINE DWELLERS.

A prominent Ijaw Chief from the ancient Gbaramatu Kingdom of Warri South West Council Area Chief George Timiyan has called on the Warri South West Council Chairman Hon Taiye Tuoyo and others saddle with the responsibility of distributing the state government free face masks to ensure that it gets to the Itsekiri and Ijaw living people riverine communities in the council area.
Chief George Timiyan who made the call recently said the face mask is not only important to those in the upland but also to the riverine dwellers.
He noted that wearing the face mask in public places according to health experts help to prevent the spread of coronavirus pandemic which is a droplets from saliva, squeeze or coughs from an effected person.
Chief George Timiyan who is the Miyenkeremowei of Gbaramatu Kingdom said that going by the hardships brought by the just concluded COVID 19 four weeks lockdown most of the riverine dwellers will not be able to purchase face mask from the market, hence the government free ones should be given to them.
He also canvassed for proper sensitization in local languages to educate the riverine dwellers on the importance of putting on the face masks especially in public places.
"For us as a people to curtail the spread of the killer coronavirus, then everyone living in any part of the country being urban or rural, upland or riverine should be carried along in the various steps of defeating COVID 19" He said.
