EGCDF LEADERSHIP GIVES SCORECARD OF THE IJAW ETHNIC DEVELOPMENT BODY

The Delta State Deputy Governor, Deacon Kingsley Otuaro has charged communities in Egbama and Gbaramatu kingdoms of Warri North and Warri South West Local Government Areas of the State to sustain the prevailing peace situation in the kingdoms so as to attract more socio-economic development to the locality.
The Deputy Governor gave the charge in Warri on Wednesday while speaking at a forum of Egbama and Gbaramatu Communities Development Foundation EGCDF.
Deacon Kingsley Otuaro, represented by the Delta South Chairman of the People's Democratic Party PDP, Mr Emmanuel Agbadogba, thanked the EGCDF for its development strides so far.
The Deputy Governor urged the people of Egbama and Gbaramatu kingdoms to remain peaceful and train themselves in relevant skills that would make them self reliant in the future.
For his part, the Chairman of Egbama and Gbaramatu Communities Development Foundation, EGCDF, Comrade Jude Ukori said in spite of the shortcomings of the Global Memorandum of Understanding, GMOU process, the EGCDF still stood out as the most reliable platform for achieving sustainable development in Egbama and Gbaramatu kingdoms.
Comrade Ukori added that the Ijaw Ethnic Development Council had since inception till date, awarded one hundred and forty seven infrastructural projects which cut across various sectors such as health, transportation, education, roads and concrete jetties.
He said the EGCDF disbursed scholarships to brilliant indigenes, gave soft loans to traders, and trained indigenes in different empowerment skills, amongst others.
The EGCDF Chairman urged stakeholders to support the Foundation in actualizing its vision and mission of promoting sustainable development, peace building and economic prosperity for the two Ijaw kingdoms.
The Vice chairman of EGCDF, Chief Godspower Gbenekama in an interview with newsmen thanked God for the achievement of the Foundation but implored Chevron to release more funds to enable the RDC do more for the people.
For his part, the EGCDF Secretary, Comrade Sheriff Mulade who was represented by the Assistant Secretary, Sule Akpasibewei said the event was in line with the Foundation's policy of giving accounts of stewardship annually, thereby ensuring transparency, integrity and sustainability.
The traditional rulers of Egbama and Gbaramatu kingdoms who were represented at the event, appealed to Chevron to pay more attention to the development needs of its host communities.
The Chairman of the Community Engagement Management Board, Professor Obafemi Ajibola commended the regional development council RDC for the peaceful manner in which it has transited from one executive to another since 2006.
Chevron's General Manager, Policy, Government and Public Affairs, Mr Esimaje Brikinn, represented by Mr. Sam Daibo commended the EGCDF leadership for executing and commissioning twenty two infrastructural projects in the two Ijaw kingdoms.
The event was climaxed by the presentation of awards to outstanding persons, as well as cultural displays amongst others.
