PIND SDGs STAKEHOLDERS ROUND TABLE PARLEY

The technical adviser, office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on sustainable development goals SDGs Dr Bala Yusuf Yunusa says that the federal government has thus far demonstrated strong commitment towards achieving the sustainable development goals SDGs before 2030.

Dr Bala stated this on recently at a high level stakeholders round table parley aimed at advancing the SDGs in the Niger Delta.

The event which was put together by a non governmental organization NGOs known as Foundation For Partnership Initiatives In The Niger Delta PIND was attended by key players from the various Niger Delta states.

Representative of government, civil society organization CSO, and different developmental stakeholders all converged on Effurun recently to appraise the level of achievement for Nigeria as a country on the sustainable development goals SDGs.

The technical adviser, office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on sustainable development goals SDGs  Dr Bala Yusuf Yunusa who took to the podium said that world leaders in 2015 sat together at the United Nations headquarters and came up with a seventeen goals to appraise developments among member countries and would run till year 2030.

Dr Bala added that the SDGs cannot be achieved with a stand alone programmes and projects and as such called for a carefully integration of the goals into national and sub national policies and development plans.

For his part, the the Executive Director of PIND foundation Dr Dara Akala who was represented by Mr James Ekwelachi stated that PIND as a body believe that no single organization can solve the complex challenges in the Niger Delta Region.

He maintained that the body through the high level stakeholders round table parley has highlighted the importance of the sustainable development goals by critically evaluating on how far the Niger Delta states have gone in meeting the SDGs.

Dr Akala who disclosed that the United Nations estimated over three hundred million US dollar for Nigeria to meet the SDGs, added that we are still far from it hence the round table parley to call for urgent and quick approach in getting it right before 2030.

A University Don from the University of Port Harcourt Dr Mina Ogbanga in her presentation on understand the Sustainable Development Goals said that there is the need to create awareness on the importance of the goals to government, developmental partners and even schools.

Others who spoke in a separate interviews including Mr Chime Asonye, Mrs Egonda Esinwoke Ogbolor among others all hailed the initiative of the round table adding that PIND foundation has done well in increasing awareness on the SDGs.

The high level stakeholders round table on advancing the SDGs in the Niger Delta was the presentation of grants to two NGOs known as Mevi Women Initiative In Ondo state as well as the Development Initiative For Community Impact

The commissioner representing Okpe, Sapele and Ethiope West on the board of DESOPADEC Hon Joyce Overah says that the governor's Ifeanyi Okowa administration was committed at ensuring conducive learning environment in all public schools across the state.

Hon Overah stated this on Thursday when he went to Urhiapele mixed secondary school Sapele to inspect the level of dilapidation in some of the classrooms.

Hon Joyce Overah who was welcomed into Urhiapele mixed secondary school Sapele by the principal inspected the dilapidated classrooms, the school laboratory and Corper lodge.

Hon Overah who spoke to newsmen shortly after the inspection said he was disturbed when he saw the deplorable state of the school on social media hence he decided to come and see for himself.

The DESOPADEC commissioner maintained that Governor Ifeanyi Okowa is passionate about conducive learning environment in public schools in the state.

He added that DESOPADEC which is a government interventionist agency has done some level of intervention in the school in the past and therefore told the school management that something would be done to make learning conducive for the students.

Hon Overah who also reacted to the heap of refuse dumped in some part of the school premises said he would liase with the Sapele council authority to evacuate the refuse as well as to spell out sanction for anyone caught dumping refuse.

On the complained of more security in the school premises, the DESOPADEC commissioner said he will communicate with the commissioner for basic education on that and other related educational issues.

The principal of Urhiapele  mixed secondary school Mr Ovie Etareri thanked the DESOPADEC commissioner for his timely show of concerned towards the school.

No doubt students and management of Urhiapele mixed secondary school Sapele would be glad to see a face lift by government in their school soon.

AMCA SCH MATERIALS

AMCA DISTRIBUTES SCHOOL AND LEARNING MATERIALS TO FOUR PUBLIC SCHOOLS IN AGBON KINGDOM.

As part of efforts to boost western education in the rural areas, a body known as Agbon Ministers Christian Association AMCA has distributed learning materials, including school bags and sandals, as well as assisted some lucky out-of-school children to return to school.

The schools that benefitted from the philanthropic gestures are Agbon Primary School Isiokolo, Ovu Primary School, Ovu, Orhono Primary School Eku, and Ezebue Primary School Ogoriowo Ovu.

Speaking on the importance of education, the National President of AMCA Bishop Pius Oruma described education as the bedrock of development in any society.

Bishop Oruma disclosed that as Ministers of God in Agbon kingdom, they do not only preach but  also contribute to the development of public schools in support of the educational policy of Government by giving out various learning materials as well as facilitating the return of some out-of-school children to the classroom.

He told the benefiting children to always listen attentively to their teachers during classes, attend school and classes regularly, as well as take their studies very seriously.

He also used the medium to urge parents and guardians to pay more attention to the education of their children and wards, stressing that education is the only legacy that can be bequeathed to the children and youths.

The Christian Cleric however pointed out that AMCA is a body highly committed to the spiritual and physical growth of indigenes and residents of Agbon kingdom.

For his part, the National Vice President of the body, Bishop Ezekiel Ovumedia in an interview described the educational interventionist project as a huge success.

Speaking in the same vein, the AMCA Chairman for Warri and its environs, Bishop Vwede Abiye-Sibi stated that in the year 2020, more schools would benefit from the education project.

Reacting, the Head Teachers of some benefiting schools thanked the leadership of AMCA for the gesture and urged the lucky children to maximize the use of the materials given to them.

They noted that the gesture would go a very long way to boosting the education of the beneficiaries whose parents could not afford such expenses.

The leadership of the group also prayed for the school children, the Monarch of Agbon Kingdom, Ogurime rime, Ukori the First and the entire Agbon Kingdom, amongst others.

WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY...PHEW DISTRIBUTES NOSE MASKS, HAND GLOVES, RAIN BOOTS TO TRADERS IN EKETE MARKET.

As part of activities to mark this year's World Environment Day, a Warri based non governmental organization, NGO, known as Peace Health Environment Water and against Human Trafficking, PHEW Foundation International has distributed nose masks, hand gloves and rain boots to the traders of Ekete market Udu.

The Director General of the NGO, Mrs Chigbo Queen Uche said the exercise was aimed at sensitizing the traders on the need to keep the market environment clean always.

June 5 every year is observed as World Environment Day.

It is a day set aside by the United Nations to create awareness on the importance of a clean environment.

To this end, a non governmental organization NGO known as Peace Health Environment Water against Human trafficking, PHEW Foundation International took out time to go to Ekete market Udu to educate the traders on the importance of a clean environment devoid of air pollution.

The Director General of the NGO, Mrs Chigbo Queen Uche said the message of a clean environment was taken to the market because it is a place where food and other health items are sold to the public for consumption.

Mrs Uche  noted that a polluted environment causes several diseases such as lung cancer and stroke which reduce one's life span.

On gas flaring in the Niger Delta Region, she called on government at all levels to compel oil companies in the region to convert the natural gas into electricity.

She said that for Nigerians to enjoy clean air, Nigerians need to use solar and other sources of energy, as well as convert wastes into useful products.

The Head of Environment  Department, Udu Local Government, Mr Frank Eruebi who also spoke to newsmen charged traders to clean the market always, adding that the Udu local council will play its own role.

The market leader, Mrs. Treasure Kingdom who spoke on behalf of the traders, thanked the NGO for sensitizing them and used the opportunity to call on government to build a modern abbatoir in the area.

This year's World Environment Day is to campaign against air pollution worldwide.

As part of activities to commemorate this year's International Day of Peace a non governmental organization NGO known as Peace Health Environmen  Water and against Human trafficking PHEW has trained forty youths on solar technology

The Director General of the NGO Mrs Queen Uche Chigbo said that in line with the theme of this year celebration the body decided to take action in training the forty youths on solar technology to help protect the environment.

While speaking on the significance of Peace, the Director General of Peace Health Environment Water and against Human trafficking Mrs Queen Uche Chigbo an engineer  said that peace guaranteed    sustainable growth.

Mrs Chigbo noted that the foundation decided to train  forty youths to mark this year's international day of peace with the  theme-  climate action for peace.

The Director General of PHEW pointed out that the three days free training on solar technology was in line with the theme of this year celebration which was climate action for peace.

She added that the foundation had  over the years  advocated  for peace, health, protection of the environment, clean water and human trafficking.

The chairman of Udu local government Chief Jite Brown who spoke to newsmen said that peace is the duty of everyone.

Chief Amos Agboje commended the foundation for the initiative of marking the international day of peace by training the youths on  renewable energy.

Some of the youths who benefited from the three day free training said it has been impartful.

Two lectures on climate change for peace and climate action for peace were  delivered by Dr Gerald Okeke and Engineer Kayode Agbelusi.

The event by the  foundation also featured  presentation of certificates to the youths as well as award to some persons who had  contributed to peace building.

A Niger Delta youth activist comrade Jackson Timiyan has felicitated with Governor Ifeanyi Okowa and his deputy Deacon Kingsley Otuaro over the gubernatorial election tribunal victory on Friday at Asaba.

Comrade Jackson Timiyan in a congratulatory message made available to newsmen on Friday in Warri says the tribunal judgement validate the overwhelming votes Dr Ifeanyi Okowa pulled in the March 9 2019 election.

Comrade Jackson Timiyan who was the immediate past Personal Assistant to the former DESOPADEC commissioner representing Ijaw ethnic described the victory as a win win situation for all.

He equally implored the opposition party APC and Chief Great Ogboru not to further any litigation, adding that court cases will only slow down the pace of development in the state.

The gubernatorial election petition tribunal sitting in Asaba Delta State capital had on Friday September 2019 declared Dr Ifeanyi Okowa the candidate of the People's Democratic Party PDP as the winner of the March 9 2019 governorship election.

The immediate past commissioner representing Ijaw ethnic nationality on the board of DESOPADEC Chief Favour Izoukomor has congratulated Governor Ifeanyi Okowa for the victory at the gubernatorial election petition tribunal judgement on Friday in Asaba.

Chief Izoukomor noted that the gubernatorial election petition tribunal victory is a victory for all Deltans irrespective of political party affiliation.

Chief Izoukomor who is the Fiyewei of Ogbe Ijoh Warri Kingdom while reacting to the judgment said that the three man panel headed by Honourable Justice Suleiman Belgore authenticated the mandate of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa which he got at the March 9 2019 governorship election to pilot the state for the next four years.

He therefore called on the opposition party APC and Chief Great Ogboru to join hands with Governor Ifeanyi Okowa and his Deputy Deacon Kingsley Otuaro in building a stronger Delta rather than going to the court.

Chief Izoukomor however expressed optimism that the second term of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa and his Deputy Deacon Kingsley Otuaro would witnessed more sustainable development in areas such as health, education, roads, sports, agriculture, amongst others.

A Chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Uvwie Local Government Area, Chief Francis Omochovwen Arhiyor has on Friday congratulated the Governor of Delta State, Sen. Arthur Ifeanyi Okowa over his victory at the Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal in Asaba.

Chief Arhiyor congratulatory message was contained in a statement shortly after the tribunal judgement.

Reacting to the judgment, Chief Arhiyor, expressed confidence that the victory the electorates overwhelmingly gave to Governor Okowa would stand the test of any legal scrutiny in the law court.

 He advised the opposition to accept the judgment of the tribunal, since the opposition really had no evidence to substantiate its petition and support the PDP's agenda of building on the gains of Gov Okowa's first tenure.

Chief Arhiyor also used the medium to  call on the opposition, the All Progressives Congress (APC) to sheath sword and join hands to develop the State.



The tribunal had on Friday dismissed the petition filed by Chief Great Ovedje Ogboru and the APC challenging the victory of Governor Okowa and the PDP  at the March 9, 2019 Governorship election.

A Niger Delta youth activist Comrade Jackson Timiyan has heartily congratulated a foremost Ijaw quintessential leader, mentor, father and grandfather Chief (Dr) J G B Ari JP as he graciously and gallantly clocked eighty years today.

Comrade Jackson Timiyan congratulatory message to  Chief Ari was contained in a statement made available to newsmen at the weekend in Warri.

Comrade Jackson Timiyan says that Chief Ari who is the Puwei of Gbaramatu kingdom which means the chief scribe of the kingdom no doubt has been a father figure, a voice, a pathfinder, a trailblazer and pacesetter to both young and old in terms of qualitative and exemplary leadership style.

He added that the Octogenarian is by all standard a pragmatic and visionary leader with a heart of gold.

He pointed out that Chief Ari's philanthropic nature has led to many lives being touched positively.

He also described him as a man whose love for youths who are leaders of tomorrow speaks volumes.

He however celebrate him in his auspicious eighty years birthday adding that celebrating Octogenarian is not an easy feat and God for Chief Ari's life.

A Niger Delta youth activist Comrade Jackson Timiyan has described the first batch of airlifted Nigerians from South Africa back home as the right thing to do.

Comrade Jackson Timiyan stated this in Warri while speaking on the Xenophobic attacks situation.

The Niger Delta youth activist condemned the Xenophobic attacks on foreigners especially Nigerians in South Africa.

Comrade Jackson Timiyan who was the immediate past Personal Assistant to the immediate past DESOPADEC commissioner representing Ijaw ethnic nationality added that the South Africans have forgotten the roles played by Nigerians and other countries towards their attainment of independence.

He implored all Nigerians to welcome the victims of the xenophobic attack back home by assisting them to fully settle down and start up their lives, careers, businesses amongst others.

Comrade Jackson Timiyan who is the current secretary general of Kokodiagbene community in Warri South West local government area also urged the Federal Government to always provide basic social amenities such as stable electricity power supply, portable drinking water, good road network, standard education, healthcare delivery amongst others, so as to help discourage the exodus of Nigerians to foreign lands.

He however urged the ministry of foreign affairs to expedite action in airlifting the remaining Nigerians who have indicated interest in returning home.

A NIGER DELTA YOUTH ACTIVIST COM JACKSON TIMIYAN HAILS GOV OKOWA STEP TO RESTATE SUSPENDED CIVIL SERVICE EMPLOYMENT.

A Niger Delta youth activist Comrade Jackson Timiyan has hailed the Delta State governor Dr Ifeanyi Okowa for his steps to restate the state suspended civil service employment.

Comrade Timiyan stated this recently in Warri while fielding questions from journalists on the state civil service.

The Niger Delta youth activist who is also a one time Personal Assistant to the immediate past DESOPADEC commissioner representing Ijaw ethnic nationality pointed out that recalling the suspended individuals would go a very long way to bring satisfaction to them as well as add value to the state labour force.

Comrade Timiyan who is the current secretary general of Kokodiagbene community described the state governor as a talk and do governor.

On the issue of employment of teachers, the youth activist commended the state government and also implored them  to ensure that most of the teachers are posted to the rural and riverine areas so as to help improve the educational standard in those areas.

He therefore urged all Deltans to continue to support the governor Ifeanyi Okowa and his deputy deacon Kingsley Otuaro administration, and expressed optimism that better days lies ahead in their second tenure.

WARRI STEM SUMMER SCH

OVER ONE HUNDRED STUDENTS ENGAGE IN BOTH THEORY AND PRACTICAL KNOWLEDGE ON SCIENCE RELATED SUBJECTS

Over one hundred students drawn from different public secondary schools in Warri North, Warri South, and Uvwie local government areas of the state had for the last two weeks engaged in free summer classes tagged WARRI STEM SUMMER SCHOOL 2019.

The students from Senior Secondary Schools were taught various science subjects as well as practicals on converting waste from food and cow dung into biogas, plastic waste into beautiful furniture designs and basic application on ICT - Website development.

The benefiting students of this year’s two weeks Warri STEM summer school were drawn from different public schools in about four local government areas of the state were given a one week of theory classes of some science subjects at Nana college Warri and another one week of practical at the PIND Foundation’s ATED Centre.

Some of the highlights of the practical session was the design of a Biodigester which converts Animal and food waste into biogas by the Biogas team, the Plastic team designed and constructed beautiful furnitures out of recycled plastics and rubber, whilst the ICT team designed and developed a Warri STEM Summer School website and various computer applications.

The Field Operations and Appropriate Technology Enabled Development Center manager Ms. Florence Agbejule said that the free summer school was aimed at engaging students from public schools during the holidays on both theory and practical knowledge on subjects from the sciences, technology, engineering and mathematics known as STEM in acronym.

Ms. Agbejule said that the free Warri STEM summer school which started in 2017 was supported by various partners such as Foundation for Partnership Initiatives in the Niger Delta – PIND, Green Knowledge Foundation, Centre for Public Policy and Development and the Itsekiri Daughters and Wives Association amongst others, to increase awareness on the  importance of STEM related disciplines to secondary school students as well as encourage them to pursue STEM related careers and alleviate the myth around difficulty in science subjects.

She described the summer school as a success and therefore urged the benefiting students to be good Warri STEM ambassadors as they further their education.

Ms. Agbejule disclosed that the selection of the students was based on merit and for only public secondary schools.

Some of the facilitators from the plastic, biogas and ICT classes who spoke to newsmen including Ms. Tse Uweja, Mr. Collins Azuike and Ms. Audrey Mukoro all gave their various experiences with the children.

They implored the students to put into good use of both the practical and theory knowledge of what they have learnt from the Warri STEM summer school so as to be better persons in the future.

For their parts, some of the benefiting students and their team leaders pointed out that the two weeks have not only imparted them with practical and theoretical knowledge but also helped them built characters as well as socialized.

They lauded the organizers of the Warri STEM summer school and prayed God to bless them.

No doubt with these young lads having been taught on how to convert waste into useful products and if they go to practicalize it, it then means that mindset of seeing waste as waste rather than being useful will be a thing of the past soon.

A youth leader in the state Comrade Jackson Timiyan has felicitated with Comrade Shedrack Agediga and Dr Paul Bebenimibo for their successful swearing in into the new DESOPADEC board to represent the good people of Ijaw ethnic nationality.

 Comrade Jackson Timiyan in a congratulatory message says that Comrade Shedrack Agediga and Dr Paul Bebenimibo are fine Ijaw politicians who have what it takes to deliver in the task ahead.

Comrade Timiyan who was the Personal Assistant to the immediate past DESOPADEC commissioner representing Ijaw ethnic nationality thanked the Delta State Governor Dr Ifeanyi Okowa for appointing Comrade Shedrack Agediga and Dr Paul Bebenimibo to represent the Ijaws in the commission.

Comrade Jackson Timiyan who is also the current National President of the Delta Ijaw Oil Producing Communities Youths Assembly hailed the steering leadership qualities of the Delta state deputy governor Deacon Kingsley Otuaro in piloting the affairs of the Ijaw people in the state.

The Niger Delta Youth activist added that the Ijaw people are proud of Deacon Kingsley Otuaro who has effectively blended well with Governor Ifeanyi Okowa in the quest of making the state prosperous.

He however expressed optimism that Comrade Shedrack Agediga and Dr Paul Bebenimibo would deliver on the task by executing and commissioning of people's oriented projects in his DESOPADEC Ijaw mandate areas.

Comrade Jackson Timiyan who wished Comrade Shedrack Agediga and Dr Paul Bebenimibo God's wisdom as they set to work implored all Ijaws to support them to deliver.

EGCDF AGM 2019

EGCDF LEADERSHIP GIVES SCORECARD OF THE IJAW ETHNIC DEVELOPMENT BODY

The Delta State Deputy Governor, Deacon Kingsley Otuaro has charged communities in Egbama and Gbaramatu kingdoms of Warri North and Warri South West Local Government Areas of the State to sustain the prevailing peace situation in the kingdoms so as to attract more socio-economic development to the locality.

The Deputy Governor gave the charge in Warri  on Wednesday while speaking at a forum of Egbama and Gbaramatu Communities Development Foundation EGCDF.


Deacon Kingsley Otuaro, represented by the Delta South Chairman of the People's Democratic Party PDP, Mr Emmanuel Agbadogba, thanked the EGCDF for its development strides so far.

The Deputy Governor urged the people of Egbama and Gbaramatu kingdoms to remain peaceful and train themselves in relevant skills that would make them self reliant in the future.

For his part, the Chairman of Egbama and Gbaramatu Communities Development Foundation, EGCDF, Comrade Jude Ukori said in spite of the shortcomings of the Global Memorandum of Understanding, GMOU process, the EGCDF still stood out as the most reliable platform for achieving sustainable development in Egbama and Gbaramatu kingdoms.

Comrade Ukori added that the Ijaw Ethnic Development Council had since inception till date, awarded one hundred and forty seven infrastructural projects which cut across various sectors such as health, transportation, education, roads and concrete jetties.

He said the EGCDF disbursed scholarships to brilliant indigenes, gave soft loans to traders, and trained indigenes in different empowerment skills, amongst others.

The EGCDF Chairman urged stakeholders to support the Foundation in actualizing its vision and mission of promoting sustainable development, peace building and economic prosperity for the two Ijaw kingdoms.

The Vice chairman of EGCDF, Chief Godspower Gbenekama in an interview with newsmen thanked God for the achievement of the Foundation but implored Chevron to release more funds to enable the RDC do more for the people.

For his part, the EGCDF Secretary, Comrade Sheriff Mulade who was represented by the Assistant Secretary, Sule Akpasibewei said the event was in line with the Foundation's policy of giving accounts of stewardship annually, thereby ensuring transparency, integrity and sustainability.

The traditional rulers of Egbama and Gbaramatu kingdoms who were represented at the event, appealed to Chevron to pay more attention to the development needs of its host communities.

The Chairman of the Community Engagement Management Board, Professor Obafemi Ajibola commended the regional development council RDC for the peaceful manner in which it has transited from one executive to another since 2006.

As part of activities to mark this year's World Environment Day, a Warri based non governmental organization, NGO, Peace Health Anti Human Trafficking Environment and Water, PHEW Foundation International has distributed nose masks, hand gloves and rain boots to the traders of Ekete market Udu.

The Director General of the NGO, Mrs Chigbo Queen Uche said the exercise was aimed at sensitizing the traders on the need to keep the market environment clean always.


June 5 every year is observed as World Environment Day. It is a day set aside by the United Nations to create awareness on the importance of a clean environment.

To this end, a non governmental organization NGO known as Peace Health Anti Human Trafficking Environment and Water, PHEW Foundation International took out time to go to Ekete market Udu to educate the traders on the importance of a clean environment devoid of air pollution.

The Director General of the NGO, Mrs Chigbo Queen Uche said the message of a clean environment was taken to the market because it is a place where food and other health items are sold to the public for consumption.

Mrs Uche  noted that a polluted environment causes several diseases such as lung cancer and stroke which reduce one's life span.

On gas flaring in the Niger Delta Region, she called on government at all levels to compel oil companies in the region to convert the natural gas into electricity.

She said for us to enjoy clean air, we need to use solar and other sources of energy, as well as convert wastes into useful products.

The Head of Environment  Department, Udu Local Government, Mr Frank Eruebi charged traders to clean the market always, while the Udu local council should play its own role.

The market leader, Mrs. Treasure Kingdom who spoke on behalf of the traders, thanked the NGO for sensitizing them and used the opportunity to call on government to build a modern abbatoir in the area.

This year's World Environment Day is to campaign against air pollution worldwide.

The PDP stalwart stated this at Ogoni Olomu in Ughelli South Local Government Area of the State while speaking with newsmen on Governor Okowa's first set of political appointments.

The Olomu born grassroots politician described Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa as a proactive Governor ready to take prosperity to the door steps of all Deltans, as well as transform the State, in line with the Smart Agenda of his administration.

He expressed optimism that the second tenure of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa and his Deputy, Deacon Kingsley Otuaro would be characterised by massive road construction and rehabilitation projects, higher quality education, more healthcare delivery services, vocational training, human capital and sports development, amongst others.

The PDP chieftain  advised Governor Okowa and his team to ensure that only individuals that are capable of running their political offices effectively are appointed in the next set.

The political big wig called on Deltans to support Governor Ifeanyi Okowa and his Cabinet towards achieving great success in the years ahead.

Speaking on post election cases pending in various courts, Prince Jifas Ogbon appealed to candidates who lost in the 2019 governorship election in Delta State to drop their charges, as court cases will only slow down the pace of development.

He charged them to join forces with the Okowa team in building an all round virile and prosperous Delta State.

He expressed implicit confidence in the ability of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa and his Deputy, Deacon Kingsley Otuaro to take Delta State to an enviable height in terms of socio-economic, human capital, physical, as well as intellectual development.

As part of its efforts to complement govt's initiatives in delivering quality healthcare to Deltans, the Urhobo Progress Union America, UPUA, has given out free medicals to some Deltans.

The President of UPU America, Olorogun Onome Dema who spoke shortly after the free medicals at Government Hospital, Ekpan said the gesture was to ensure that Deltans live in sound health at all times.

Speaking on the free medicals organized by the Urhobo Progress Union UPU America, the President, Dr. Onome Dema said the free medicare was a follow up to the free medical outreach of the group carried out to mark the 2O18 Urhobo cultural day at Ovwianmuge Agbarho.

Dr. Dema recommended some ways through which people can live in good health, such as regular exercises, eating right, taking good care of oneself, as well as consulting certified medical experts whenever there are medical challenges.

The UPU America President disclosed that apart from the medical outreach, the body had earlier organized Urhobo language competitions to promote the speaking of Urhobo language amongst Urhobo children.

She said UPUA had also sunk boreholes in parts of Urhobo land to provide portable drinking water for the people, amongst other community projects.

The Head of the UPU America free medicare outreach, Dr David Ogbon told Newsmen that the beneficiaries received treatments for high blood pressure, diabetes, hypertension, malaria and other diseases.

Another medical expert, Dr John Ogbonna urged the public to always go for medical check-ups in  recognized hospitals rather than patronizing quacks.

For their parts, some beneficiaries of the UPU America free medicare outreach thanked its President, Dr. Onome Dema and her team for coming back home to render free medicals to patients.

They appealed to other well-to-do Urhobo groups and individuals to emulate UPU America in doing things that will better the lot of Urhobo people, as well as move the Urhobo nation forward.

No doubt, the executive of UPU America headed by Dr Onome Dema is poised at ensuring that Urhobo people enjoy the betterment of life.

The National Coordinator of Center for Peace and Environmental Justice (CEPEJ), Comrade Sheriff Mulade says one out of three women worldwide experiences violence from an intimate partner.

Comrade Mulade stated this on Friday in a press statement to mark this year’s International Women’s Day

He said: “every two second a girl under the age of eighteen gets married, in every six minutes, girls are at risk of undergoing female genital mutilation and other gender based violence.

The International Women’s Day 2019 campaign theme is “Balance for Batter” a call-to-action for driving gender balance across the world.

He said now is a great and important time in history to do everything possible in order to achieve a more gender-balanced society.

The NGO Coordinator said although women have come a long way, there’s still more to be achieved from grassroots activism to worldwide action.

The Coordinator  also celebrated brave women everywhere, especially those who support, advocate and work towards gender equality and fair treatment of women and girls.

He congratulated women in Nigeria and around the world for this year’s International Women’s Day, adding that the capacity of a woman is virtually limitless.

He expressed the hope that Nigeria would have the right statistics and engage the competencies of women in nation building.

The Special Adviser to the Delta State Governor on Infrastructure and Housing Development, Senator Emmanuel Aguariavwodo has called on Deltans especially those in Delta Central Senatorial District to vote massively for Governor Ifeanyi Okowa and all PDP House of Assembly candidates on Saturday March 9 2019.

Senator Aguariavwodo made the call at a forum of the Delta Democratic Trust in Okpare Olomu, Ughelli South local govt area at the weekend.

According to Senator Emmanuel Aguariavwodo the Delta Development Trust is a political pressure group under the People's Democratic Party PDP.

Sen. Emmanuel Aguariavwodo who was the convener of the forum said it was to charge members of the PDP to spread the message of re-electing Governor Ifeanyi Okowa in the March 9, 2019 polls.

Senator Aguariavwodo who is the Special Adviser to the Delta State Governor on Infrastructure and Housing Development said Governor Ifeanyi Okowa deserved a second tenure to enable him complete his development projects in the twenty five local government areas of the state.

He urged the electorate to vote peacefully and  ensure that their votes are counted and collated before leaving the polling center.

Speaking in the same vein, the State Commissioner for Youth Development, Mr. Oghenekaro Ilolo, the Commissioner representing Ughelli South, Udu, Uvwie and Urhobo in Warri, Honourable Teleb Tebite, as well as a former civil commissioner in the state, Professor Patrick  Muoboghare described Governor Ifeanyi Okowa as a man of the people.

Chief Izoukomor in a statement signed by his Personal Assistant Comrrade Jackson Timiyan says the victory of Senator James Manager, Chief Thomas Ereyitomi and Hon Julius Pondi clearly shows that Delta South is for PDP.

Chief Izoukomor who is also the PDP campagn coordinator for Warri South West local government area expressed optimism that the PDP lawmakers-elect would perform when they get to the National Assembly, in terms of sponsoring life changing bills and moving motions that will better the lot of the people.

UPU AMERICA : PARENTS IMPLORED TO TEACH THEIR KIDS URHOBO LANGUAGE

Parents and guardians have been urged to always teach their children and wards their local languages so as to prevent them from going into extinction.

The President of Urhobo Progress Union America, UPUA, Olorogun Onome Dema gave the charge at Effurun during the 2019 annual Urhobo language competition organized for public secondary schools in Urhoboland.

Our correspondent reports that the Urhobo language competition took place at the Federal University of Petroleum Resources Effurun FUPRE courtesy of the Urhobo Progress Union, America, UPUA.

Sixty six government' secondary schools drawn from the twenty four kingdoms of Urhobo Nation participated in the 2019 edition of Urhobo language competition put together by the Urhobo Progress Union America, UPUA.

The participating students from the various public schools passed through many stages and rounds, answering questions in Urhobo language.

At the end of the keenly contested competition, representatives of Okpara secondary school emerged winners.

Speaking on the Urhobo language competition, the President of the Urhobo Progress Union America, Olorogun Onome Dema said the annual Urhobo language competition was to encourage Urhobo children to speak the language, to prevent it from going into extinction.

Dr. Onome Dema told newsmen that the UPU America also organizes Urhobo language competition for Urhobo children overseas, to encourage them to speak their mother tongue.

She advised Urhobo parents and guardians whose children and wards hardly speak the language, to periodically take them to the village, buy Urhobo languague audio and visual aids and also make the speaking of Urhobo language compulsory in their homes.

For his part, the Director of the 2019 Urhobo language competition, Mr. Peter Nosiama said the competition would go a long way in promoting the speaking of Urhobo language across the demographic strata of Urhobo Nation.

Some of the participating students, their teachers and parents commended the UPU America for facilitating the Urhobo language competition and implored other Urhobo bodies to emulate the gesture.

The 2019 Urhobo language competition was climaxed with the presentation of cash prizes to the three best schools.

Representatives of Okpara Secondary School came first with a cash prize of one hundred thousand naira, those from Afesiere Secondary School took  the second position and smiled home with a cash prize of seventy five thousand naira, while students from Erhor Secondary School came third with a cash reward of fifty thousand naira.

Other participants also went home with various consolation prizes.
