....GOV OKOWA CHARGES THEM TO SEE THEIR ELEVATION AS A CALL TO HIGHER RESPONSIBILITIES

In a bid to strengthen and reinvigorate the Delta State civil service, Governor  Ifeanyi Okowa on Monday  sworn in five new  Permanent Secretaries.

Correspondent Marian Nweke reports that the Chairman and members of the Delta State Public Procurement Council were also sworn into office at the ceremony held at the banquet hall, Government House Asaba.

Inaugurating the Permanent Secretaries, Governor Ifeanyi Okowa urged them to see their elevation as a call to higher responsibilities and challenges that would lead to maximum productivity in the state civil service.

He said as veterans in civil service and Chief Accounting Officers in thier respective ministries, they are to lead by example by upholding commitment, accountability, fairness and versatility in the discharge of their duties.


While urging the new PSs to be acquainted with the Stronger Delta policies and programmes of his administration, the Governor pledged to continue to create enabling environment for civil servants to thrive.

He equally reminded them of the need to make cutting waste and inefficiency, as well as enforcing discipline and due process in the rank and file as a priority so as to engender a new paradigm shift in the civil service.

To the Chairman and members of the Delta State Public Procurement Council, Governor Okowa disclosed that it was a core duty of the Council to ensure that all extant laws such as sign off limits and other standardised regulations are complied with by the Commission.

He noted that the Council, as an independent body, was a creation of Delta State Public Procurement Law 2020, stressing that its establishment, would among other things, help to achieve the state fiscal transparency, accountability and sustainability initiative of the World Bank.

Senator Okowa noted that the Council would have an oversight function on the state Public Procurement Commission, stating that it was the requirement of the World Bank that for all transactions of Government to be credible, such transactions should be overseen by an independent body such as the Council.

Responding on the behalf of the new Permanent Secretaries  and the members of the Delta State  Procurement  Council  Mr Friday Momah  and Sir Okey Ofili  respectively, assured the Governor that they would do their best in their assignments, just as they promised to make meaningful input in building a Stronger Delta.

The new Permanent Secretaries are Mr. Momah Friday, Mr. Aghedo Emmanuel, Dr. Bragiwa Moses, Mr. Agamah Bennett and Mr. Awuse Maxwell.

While that of the Delta State Public Procurement Council has a former Head of Service, Sir Okey Ofili as Chairman, Mr. Edwin Abraka and Mr. Okezi Odugala as members while the Director-General of the State Public Procurement Commission would serve as Secretary, while the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Commissioner for Finance, Commissioner for Economic Planning and Chief Economic Adviser are Ex-officio members of the Commission.

The Executive Assistant to the Delta State Deputy Governor on Security Chief Joel Ogbona says that the dismissal of all charges by the Federal High Court in Lagos on Wednesday July 15 2020 against High Chief Government Ekpemupolo popularly known as Tompolo and others former Niger Delta freedom fighters is a clear indication that the court is the last hope of the common man.

Chief Joel Ogbona while reacting to the Lagos Division of the Federal High Court judgement, said that Tompolo is now free from all fraud allegations.

The Ogbe Ijoh Warri Kingdom born politician emphasized that High Chief Government Ekpemupolo who is a highly respected leader in the Niger Delta, is someone committed to the emancipation of the oil producing neglected region.

" Tompolo as a leader is not a selfish person but one who has constantly fought for the advancement of the Niger Delta Region" he said.

" Now with the judgement from the Lagos Division Federal High Court on Wednesday 15 July 2020, our leader and mentor is now freed at last from the baseless allegations " he stated.

He however enjoined High Chief Government Ekpemupolo not to relent in his quest of fighting for the sustainable development of the Niger Delta Region that accounts for the nation's revenue.

A Youth Leader in the Niger Delta, Engineer Don Dickson Ogugu has joined legions of Niger Deltans and Non Niger Deltans alike to hailed the judgement of the Federal High Court sitting in Lagos on Wednesday vindicating High Chief Government Ekpemupolo alias Tompolo and others Ex Niger Delta freedom fighters from a forty count charges filed by the Federal Government against them.


Engineer Don Dickson Ogugu in a congratulatory message on Thursday 16 July 2020 described the Wednesday July 15 2020 Lagos Federal High Court dismissal of the forty count charges against the Niger Delta freedom fighter High Chief Government Ekpemupolo alias Tompolo as a laudable one.


Engineer Don Dickson Ogugu who is an opinion leader and a former Chairman of Diebiri Batan Community in the Ancient Diebiri kingdom in Warri South West Council Area added that High Chief Government Ekpemupolo is one Niger Delta son who is passionate about the liberation of the rich crude oil and gas producing but under developed region.


He maintained that Tompolo also known as GOC has worked assiduously to attract sustainable landmark infrastructural projects to the region, citing the Maritime University Okerenkoko among others as some of his contributions.



Engineer Don Dickson Ogugu however affirmed that the Niger Delta Youths are proud of the achievements of High Chief Government Ekpemupolo and thus implored him to keep on fighting for the emancipation of the Niger Delta Region.

A traditional High Chief, Comrade Mulade Sheriff, the Ibe-serimowei (Kingdom Promoter) of the Ancient Gbaramatu Kingdom of Delta State, has expressed profound joy over the dismissal of all the 40 count charges against a Niger Delta freedom fighter, High Chief Government Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo, by a Federal High Court on Wednesday.

In a statement made available to newsmen in Abuja on Wednesday, High Chief Sheriff Mulade noted that Tompolo has contributed positively to Niger Delta development even in the face of persecutions, as he attracted the Nigeria Maritime University to Okerenkoko, Delta State, as well as other mega projects to the region.

He commended Tompolo for his steadfastness and doggedness against all odds towards securing a better life for the Niger Delta people, and urged him to sustain the struggle for the emancipation and development of the region, adopting a non-violence approach of constructive engagement through peaceful dialogues.

While congratulating former Director General of the Nigeria Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, NIMASA, Patrick Akpolokemi and others for the freedom and exonoration of the once troubled Niger Delta forward looking personalities, Comrade Mulade described the timely outcome as victory and good news for the Ijaw Nation and the Niger Delta Region at large.

The Chairman of the People's Democratic Party PDP in Warri South West Council Area Chief Favour Izoukumor has expressed joy over the news of the recovery of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, his sweetheart Dame Edith Okowa and daughter from coronavirus.

Chief Izoukumor while speaking to newsmen on the recovery news of the Delta State first family from COVID 19 on Tuesday July 14 2020, said that all Deltans are happy to know that the state first family have been discharged and declared COVID 19 free.



" The full recovery of His Excellency Dr Ifeanyi Okowa and his lovely family from the coronavirus is one news worth being happy about " he said.

He thanked all who prayed for them during their days in isolation.



Chief Izoukumor therefore admonished all to see the coronavirus as a pandemic that need to be taken seriously, adding that adherence to social and physical distance, regular hands washing with soap and running water, the use of hands sanitizer as well as wearing of face masks are some of the ways to prevent the spread of the spread of coronavirus.

The Chairman of the Delta State Task Force on Environment, Mr Sylvester Oromoni has attributed the quick recovery of His Excellency Dr Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa, his wife Dame Edith Okowa and his daughter from the coronavirus to the handiwork of God.

Mr Sylvester Oromoni stated this on Tuesday 14 July 2020 when reacting to the news of Governor Okowa and his family recovery from COVID 19.

" The news of the Delta State Governor and his family testing negative of the coronavirus after a successful treatment is a good one " he said.

Mr Oromoni thanked God Almighty for preserving the lives of Governor Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa and his wonderful family from the killer coronavirus.

He further added that during the period when the governor was in isolation, receiving treatment the state was still running on the path of sustainable prosperity, adding that with his full recovery and return to full work, the state will continue to witness more growth.



The Delta State Chairman on Task Force on Environment emphasized that COVID 19 is real and as such advocated for a clean surrounding and personal improve  hygiene in curbing it's spread in the state.

HON EFETURU ONO-SORHUE RESTATES COMMITMENT TO RUN FOR UDU CHAIRMANSHIP SEAT



Foremost aspirant for the Chairmanship of Udu Council, Hon Efeturi Ono-Sorhue says he is still in the race.

Hon Efeturi in an interview stated that he has not stepped down from the race and will not step down for anyone.

The Owhrode born politician, said he decided to throw his hat into the political ring of Udu LGA, to restore the lost glory of Udu.

He explained that Udu LGA which is one of the oldest Local Government Areas in the State has little or nothing to show for it.

Hon Ono-Sorhue said, if given the opportunity to serve, he would fast track development in the council area, give priority to education and security as well as maintain existing roads in the Council area.

He noted that, Udu LGA is blessed with abundant natural and human resources and  promised to use his international connection to attract investors that will create employment and shore up the revenue base of the Council.

He also promised to meaningfully engage youths, women and men in the area through skill acquisition and empowerment programmes.

The Political Science graduate, sued for the support of all Udu indigenes and promised to respect elders and carry all communities along in the scheme of things.

He commended Governor Ifeanyi Okowa for his development efforts across the state and promised to key into his Stronger Delta Agenda, if he eventually emerge as Chairman of Udu Council.

YOUTHS FROM EGBAMA AND GBARAMATU KINGDOMS GET STARTER PACKS COURTESY EGCDF.



As part of its efforts to key into the State Government's youth development scheme, the Egbema Gbaramatu Communities Development Foundation, EGCDF has presented free start-up packs to 108 youths who acquired various skills in capacity building training with durations ranging from six to twelve months.

The skills acquisition training and the start-up packs were to empower the beneficiaries towards becoming self-reliant entrepreneurs who would in turn employ and train others with the aim of eradicating poverty in Egbema and Gbaramatu kingdoms.

The benefitting youths drawn from Egbema and Gbaramatu kingdoms, were trained in carpentry, aluminum window and door fabrication, fashion designing and tailoring, photography and video production, electrical installations, GSM engineering, make-up artistry, paint and soap making, as well as agripreneurship.

Addressing the youths before the presentation, the Chairman of EGCDF, Comrade Jude Ukori said the various skills they acquired through the training would launch them into greater economic opportunities, as well as make them compete favourably in the local and international business environments.

Comrade Ukori noted that the start-up packs would enable the trained youths start off viable and sustainable ventures that would generate incomes for their livelihood.

He therefore strongly advised the youths not to destroy their future by selling the empowerment packages but rather use the items to start their own businesses, earn a living and transform their lives.

He implored the soap and paint making as well as agripreneurship trainees to be patient as plans were on to set up a dependable business enterprise where their products would be branded to meet global standards.

Comrade Ukori thanked his team members for their commitment, and the NNPC/Chevron joint  venture for powering the training scheme.

He then appealed to residents of the two kingdoms to shun pipeline vandalism and illegal oil bunkering so that there would be more money to train and empower more youths through the EGCDF skills acquisition training programme.

Some of the benefitting youths appreciated the EGCDF officials and the joint venture partners for the training and start-up packs which they all promised not to sell but to utilize in bettering their lives.

CNL Team Lead for EGCDF, Emmanuel Emeribe commended Comrade Ukori and his team for a job well done, and the trained youths for peacefully conducting themselves during the training period.

Highpoint of the event was the presentation of the start-up packs to the benefitting youths, who were enjoined to strictly adhere to all health precautionary measures towards curbing the spread of coronavirus in the two kingdoms.

OKOBARO PRAYS FOR GOV. OKOWA'S SPEEDY RECOVERY



The Okobaro of Ughievwen Kingdom Owhawha the second has described the infection of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, his wife and daughter of Covid-19  as unfortunate.



Owhawha the second said Governor Okowa has been at the forefront in the fight against the deadly disease and has taken several tactical steps in containing the spread of the virus.

The monarch prayed for the speedy recovery of Governor Okowa, his wife and daughter.

He equally, prayed for the speedy recovery of the Secretary to the State Government, Mr Chiedu Ebie, Commissioner for Information and others infected by the coronavirus pandemic.

The Okobaro urged indigenes of Ughievwen Kingdom to adhere strictly to the State government's regulations on preventing Covid-19.

Honourable Ani who was addressing a pressure group TEAM ANI For Chairman, Uvwie Local Government Area, canvassing support for his ambition and aspirations said that he is seriously in the race and it is not a rumour and he is contesting under the platform of the people's Democratic party PDP.He disclosed that he is confirming to them that all  what they have been hearing about him as regards the forthcoming Local Government Election iis true but at the appropriate time he is going to declare his intention formally at a later day.

" I'm not declaring my intention formally yet but the day I'm going to do it Asaba will hear it.I want to tell you people that I'm seriously in the Chairmanship race and I'm going to win! They have been using my Father's name to clear their way and find themselves in positions! So why do you think it will be difficult for the son!" He assured the group not to be intimidated by anybody and that those who " Are calling me Small Boy will be surprise! Na those who nor know Jesus  na im dey call am small boy! The small boy will surprise them"

He described his entrance into the race as " Divine" and drum support from the group which spread across the 10;Wards of the LGA.He assured the group that no body can intimidate them but rather they should commence spreading the gospel of Honourable Efe Ani for Chairman.He called on them to stick to all regulations and adherence to the Coronavirus Pandemic by observing wearing of face masks, washing hands with alcholic based  hand sanitizere and maintaining social distancing since according to him Covid 19 is real!


Earlier ,the Chairman of Ighwuvie,of Uvwie, and his Vice, said that  most Uvwie Politicians are direct and indirect beneficiaries of the foundation laid down by the Late Friday Meyawhe Ani," Who is the Father of Efe, who built the Council Secretariat and lay solid foundation for Uvwie politicians so I do not see any reason why they are not going to support his son.Your father worked Uvwie people so it is the turn of Uvwie people to reciprocate by making you the Council Chairman" Mrs Theresa a Woman Leader who is popularly known as " Uvwie Celidon," Also echoed the same sentiment.

The Senior Special Assistant to the Delta State Governor on Transportation Chief Francis Arhiyor says that Governor Ifeanyi Okowa achievements in all sectors in the state are unprecedented.



Chief Francis Arhiyor stated this at the weekend in Effurun while playing host to members of the People's Democratic Party PDP in Uvwie ward eight and the PDP local government leadership.

Chief Arhiyor told newsmen that the hosting was his own way of appreciating members of the PDP for their support for Governor Ifeanyi Okowa and the party.




He urged the PDP faithful to remain steadfast in their support for Governor Ifeanyi Okowa and the party, noting that Uvwie council area is a stronghold of PDP

The Uvwie Born Politician  maintained that PDP is one big family that has always triumph in previous elections and will continue to triumph in subsequent elections.

The SSA to Governor Ifeanyi Okowa on Transportation pointed out that the state Governor need the support of all Deltans in order for him to finish strong come 2023.



The SSA to the Governor on Transportation added that Governor Ifeanyi Okowa has done well in the transport sector, especially in addressing issues of clashes in public motor parks across the state.



Chief Francis Arhiyor who responded to questions on Governor Ifeanyi Okowa and other government officials who contracted the novel coronavirus, however wished Governor Okowa and others speedy recovery.



For his part the chairman of the People's Democratic Party PDP in Uvwie local government area Mr Efe Okoledo in his speech thanked Chief Francis Arhiyor for deciding to appreciate his people in the ward for their support for the party always.

Speaking in a similar vein, the Unuevworo of Ohorhe in Uvwie kingdom Dr Samuel Eshenake described the host Chief Francis Arhiyor as a grassroots leader who knows how to appreciate hard work for the party.

Others PDP faithful who spoke in their separate responses including the councillor representing Uvwie ward eight Honourable Gracious Agbajor, the PDP Uvwie ward eight chairman Mr Frank Jefia Junior, the chairman Chief Arhiyor Campaign Organization, Chief Peter Digbori and the Uvwie PDP chairman of all chairmen Mr Fidelis Arotuah  all implored other leaders of the party to emulate Chief Francis Arhiyor who they said  knows how to appreciate those who worked for the party.

Honourable Efe Ani, Majority Leader of Uvwie Legislative Arm and two terms Councillor who is also a Chairmanship Aspirant for Uvwie Local Government Council has confirmed his intention to contest the forthcoming Local Government Election.Just as he urged  his supporters not to be intimidated or afraid of others nor undermine his size, rather he will emerge as the next Chairman of Uvwie Local Government Area.

*COVID-19: Chief Sheriff Mulade Wishes Governor Okowa's Household, SSG, Others, Speedy Recovery*

*...Calls on Deltans to Seek Divine Intervention...*

The National Coordinator of Center for Peace and Environmental Justice, CEPEJ, Chief Comrade Sheriff Mulade has called on Deltans to seek divine intervention for the State and the household of the Governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, the SSG, Mr. Chiedu Ebie and all other Government officials who have tested positive to COVID-19, so that they could recover fast and  effectively tackle various development issues such as hunger and COVID-19 pandemic.

In a statement made available to newsmen, Chief Mulade, a Delta State born environmental and human rights activist said it was sad that Dr. Okowa and other govt. functionaries contracted COVID-19, and urged all Deltans to pray to God to protect the people of the state from the pandemic.

Chief Mulade who is the Ibe-Sorimowei of Ancient Gbaramatu Kingdom, said coronavirus is real and urged everyone to adhere strictly to all health protocols such as constant hand washing with soap and running water, the use of alcohol based hand sanitizers, as well as maintaining social and physical distancing, as the deadly virus does not respect anybody's status.

He advised Deltans and other Nigerians to stay at home as much as they could, especially if they do not have any strong reason to go out of their homes.

Edo guber: Pastor Ize-Iyamu will emerge victorious – Atiku

The All Progressives Congress, APC, Governors’ Forum, has said it would fully mobilize support for the party’s candidate in the upcoming governorship election in Edo State.
This was disclosed by the Governor of Kebbi State and Chairman of APC governors Forum, Abubakar Atiku Bagudu while speaking with newsmen.
Bagudu expressed optimism that the APC candidate, Ize-Iyamu would emerge winner of the forthcoming election.
According to Bagudu: “We hope that the party would emerge victorious in the elections following the achievements of President Muhammadu Buhari administration.”
Ize-Iyamu emerged winner of the APC primary election after defeating his closest rival.
He had garnered 27, 838 votes to defeat his closest contestant, Odubu, while Osaro Obazee withdrew from the race

Lagos: Properties worth millions of Naira destroyed as fire guts Ajao market

Millions of properties have been lost in a fire outbreak that occurred in the Ajao market, Lagos state on Wednesday, July 1.


The cause of the fire outbreak is yet to be ascertained but preliminary investigations showed the fire started from a shopping mall close to the market before spreading into the market. Some adjourning houses were also affected by the fire outbreak.


Men of the Lagos Fire Service Lagos State Emergency Management Agency LASEMA are on ground working to put out the fire.


The spokesperson of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, Nosa Okunbor, who spoke to newsmen, said the fire started at about 1am today. He added that no casualty has been recorded yet.


“There is a fire outbreak there. It started around 1am but we are there already. From all indications, the Ajao Main Market has a small shopping mall and from what we gathered, the fire started from the shopping mall and extended to the main market and affected some adjoining buildings.

But the LASEMA Response Team and other stakeholders, including the Lagos State Fire Service and the police are already on ground to quell the fire. No casualty has been recorded for now.” Okunbor said
