GAS FLARE PENALTY FUND

HOST COMMUNITIES OF NIGERIA PRODUCING OIL AND GAS INAUGURATES DELTA IJAW CENTRAL WORKING COMMITTEE ON GAS FLARE PENALTY FUND.

The Host Communities Of Nigeria Producing Oil and Gas Delta Ijaw Central Working Committee on Gas Flare Penalty Fund was on Friday constituted by its National Chairman Dr Mike Emuh.

The chairman of the forty members committee Rev Ebide Obigha in his acceptance speech at GRA Effurun said that him and executives are going to work assiduously towards addressing issues relating to gas flare in the Delta Ijaw communities.

The National Chairman of Host Communities Of Nigeria Producing Oil and Gas Dr Mike Emuh while addressing members said that there is an international law which requires companies flaring natural gas to pay money to the host community.

Dr Emuh stated that in Nigeria for over fifty years natural gas was flared into the air with no money being paid to the host and impacted communities.

The Host Communities of Nigeria Producing Oil And Gas National Chairman added that President Mohammadu Buhari recently harken to the cry of the host communities by setting up a committee which came up with a recommendation that gas flare penalty levels are paid to the host communities in line with international gas flaring law.

Dr Emuh disclosed that the recommendation has been gazetted and approved by President Buhari.

He implored the newly constituted Host Communities Of Nigeria Producing Oil And Gas, Delta Ijaw Central Working Committee on Gas Flare Penalty Fund to work with the traditional rulers, the state and national executives in actualizing set goals.

The chairman of the Host Communities Of Nigeria Producing Oil And Gas, Delta Ijaw Central Working Committee On Gas Flare Penalty Fund Rev Ebide Obigha who spoke through his Vice Chairman Chief Larry Omula thanked God for making the day a reality and pledged to work.

Speaking in a similar vein, the secretary of the body Comrade Jackson Timiyan in an interview said that their inauguration by the national body would help to drive in the benefits of gas flare penalty levels to host communities in the Ijaw nation.

Others who spoke in their free speeches including Comrade Jude Ukori, Archbishop Dr G E Kemekoga and Bishop Samson Amajane all canvassed for unity and one voice as they go about developing the rich oil and gas producing but under developed communities.

The inauguration was later climaxed with the swearing in and oath of office taking as well as the presentation of documents to the newly inaugurated body.
