OKOLOBA LAND INSPECTION

EDUCATION : OKOLOBA FEDERATED COMMUNITY PROVIDES STATE GOVT WITH LAND TO BUILD THE PERMANENT SITE OF THE OKOLOBA GOVERNMENT SECONDARY SCHOOL OKOLOBA.

The Delta State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education on Wednesday 13 of November 2019 embarked on an inspection and scoping exercise of the proposed land provided by the people of Okoloba Federated Community in Bomadi local government area to build the permanent site of the Okoloba Government Secondary School Okoloba.

Our correspondent reports that the people of Okoloba Federated Community who expressed delight over the scoping and inspection appealed to the Delta State Government to ensure proper sand filling of the land before building the school so as to prevent flooding when it rains.

Officials of the Delta State Basic and Secondary Education Asaba, that of Housing Education Project Unit as well as the people of Okoloba Federated Community all inspected the proposed land provided by the community for the take off of the permanent site of the Okoloba government secondary school Okoloba.

The Principal Administration Officer of the Department of Planning Research and Statistics of the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education Asaba Mr Thomas Brown Erebimiekumo who spoke in an interview said that the Okoloba Federated Community wrote to the Ministry notifying the ministry of a land provided by them for the permanent site of the Okoloba Government Secondary School.

Mr Thomas told newsmen that him and his team have seen the vast virgin land and we go back to Asaba to report to the ministry for the necessary action.

For his part, the Senior Special Assistant to the Delta State Governor on Research and Youths Development Dr David Akpobolokemi said that the scoping and inspection of the site by the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education shows that Governor Ifeanyi Okowa is passionate about education especially in the riverines.

Dr Akpobolokemi disclosed that the project of the permanent site of the community secondary school is going to be done in two phases, with the first phase on dredging and sand filling of the land while the second phase is the building process.

A notable Chief of the area, Chief Mathias Young said that the community secondary school which is on a temporary site started in 2011 by community efforts before government took it over in 2013.

Chief Young lauded the Delta State Government for deciding to build a permanent secondary school but appealed for proper sand filling of the land before building on it.

Speaking in a similar vein, the Okoloba Federated Community Chairman Comrade Stephen koki said that during raining season the water level in the area rises thereby causing perennial flooding in the community.

Comrade koki added that the temporary site of the Okoloba Government Secondary School has been submerged by flood, making their children not attending school.

The people of Okoloba Federated Community are eagerly hoping to get Government intervention in addressing the issue of perennial flooding ravaging their community
