FLOOD OKOLOBA COMMUNITY

OKOLOBA FEDERATED COMMUNITY SUBMERGES BY FLOOD.....

.....INDIGENES APPEALS FOR FEDERAL AND STATE GOVT INTERVENTION.

Indigenes of Okoloba Federated Community in Bomadi local government area of the Delta State have appealed to government and other relevant authorities to come to their aid in addressing the perennial flooding that has ravaged their community.

Our correspondent reports that the ravaging flood which started in the month of September this year has rendered many homeless, destroyed property worth millions of naira amongst other damages.

Places affected by the ravaging flood in Okoloba Federated Community in Bomadi local government area include, private residences, the NIMASA technical college Okoloba, it's canteen, generator plants, Oge Primary School Okoloba, Okoloba Government Secondary School Okoloba, farmlands, churches, even graves were not spared.

Some of the Indigenes who spoke to newsmen said the flood has brought hardship to them as they no longer go for their fishing and farming occupation.

Some of the nursing mothers while narrating their ordeal said that their new born babies are sick as a result of the flood and need medications.

They noted that their children within the school age no longer attend school as the flood has taken over the public schools and other public utilities in the community.

The chairman of Okoloba Federated Community Comrade Stephen Koki appealed to the local, state and federal governments to send relief materials to them.

Comrade Koki said they can only  move around their community with  canoes, or rain boots.

The eldest man of the community Pa Amiki Edolor, a retired DSP of Police, Mr Clement Emanakadi and a former Okoloba community chairman Comrade Clement Anebimone said the flood which is experienced in the community every year normally halt socio-economic activities in the community.

They suggested a proper sand filling and the dredging of the river as solutions to the perennial flooding of the community.

Comrade Bowene Romeo for his part called on the federal government to prevail on NDDC to complete the community's shore protection, so as to prevent the community from being washed away by the flood.

The people of Okoloba Federated Community and other communities by the bank of the river are hoping that government will act swiftly to address the perennial flooding in their communities.
