EGBEMA AND GBARAMATU KINGDOMS TOWN HALL MEETING TO CHART A WAY FURTHER FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT TO THEIR COMMUNITIES.

Stakeholders in Egbama and Gbaramatu kingdoms of Warri North and Warri South West Council Areas of Delta State have been charged to sustain the prevailing peace among them so as to sustain the tempo of development in their communities.

The Chairman of Egbama Gbaramatu Communities Development Foundation EGCDF, Comrade Jude Ukori gave the charge in Effurun on Wednesday at a town hall meeting of stakeholders from the two riverine Ijaw kingdoms of Delta State.

The stakeholders forum was for participants to fashion out sustainable ways to grow and develop their various communities.

The Chairman of the Ijaw Regional Development Council, Comrade Jude Ukori said the interactive forum was to provide a platform for the people to dialogue on the best development approach to be adopted by the Ijaw RDC to grow and develop the two riverine Ijaw kingdoms.

Comrade Ukori said the community dialogue was in line with EGCDF's core values of transparency and accountability aimed at promoting peace and unity among the people towards achieving more development in the area.

He disclosed that the Global Memorandum of Understanding GMOU entered into by the government, the communities and the Chevron/NNPC joint venture, would expire in December, 2019.

He added that the RDC was able to negotiate increase in  its funds and the number of scholarship awards to indigent students from the two kingdoms, as well as fostered sustainable peace and unity among stakeholders.

While urging the government and the oil firms to provide healthcare facilities and create jobs for residents of the area, Comrade Ukori warned the people against vandalism of oil facilities and disruption of community projects, describing such acts as anti-development.

The Vice Chairman of the Foundation, Chief Godspower Gbenekama responded to the various questions raised by the stakeholders and made the position of the RDC known on such issues.

In an interview with newsmen, the Secretary of the foundation, Comrade Sheriff Mulade thanked Chevron and its joint venture partners for the increase in funds but solicited for more to enable the Foundation execute more projects in the two Ijaw oil and gas producing kingdoms.

For their parts, some community leaders including Comrade Jackson Timiyan and Mr. Victor Eseimieghan said the dialogue would usher in a win win situation for all stakeholders, and commended the RDC for the opportunity.

Comrade Timiyan and Mr Eseimieghan however implored the leadership of the Ijaw RDC to strive towards addressing development challenges facing other communities.
