As the world celebrates October 24th as world polio day, Rotary club District 9141 Nigeria on Thursday embarked on a sensitization campaign on the need to end polio in Uvwie council area and the nation at large.
The Rotary District Governor in charge of Delta,Edo,Bayelsa and Rivers states,Rotarian Nze Anizor,who spoke to newsmen at Alaka Primary Healthcare Centre, said that Rotary as a club has done well in championing the fight against complete eradication of polio in the world.
October 24th every year is globally observed as World polio day.
In celebrating the 2019 World Polio Day, Rotary club District 9141 Nigeria in their numbers matched through Effurun Sapele road to sensitive the people of Uvwie on the need to end polio.
The Rotary district Governor in charge of Delta, Edo,Bayelsa and River states, Rotarian Nze Anizor said that Rotary club has been in the fore-front of eradicating polio.
Rotarian Anizor noted that although Nigeria as a country has made gaint strive in eradicating polio from the country there is still need for continuous vaccination of children within the age of zero to five.
He pointed out that the Rotary clubs core responsibility is to render service to humanity and appealed to government and well do bodies or individuals to partner with the club in actualizing this goal.
The Rotary District Poliopius Chairman of District 9141,Rotarian IKenna Ogbonna and Assistant Rotary Coordinator Zone Twenty Two Africa, Rotarian Ikponmusa Ogiemudia, stressed that poliomyelitis which is a disease that disfigured the body can be curtailed by ensuring that children are given polio vaccine.
Other Rotarian who spoke to Newsmen including Rotarian Cosmos Ighoraye and Rotarian Blexon Omadoye, pointed out that the significance of the World Polio Day can not be over emphasized, as it helps to create more awareness on polio eradication.
Rotarian Ighoraye and Omadoye maintained that Rotary club Nigeria has a task to keep polio to zero.
They said poliomyelitis as a virus mainly affects nervous system, leaving bodies with a crippled leg, thereby making them unable to walk normally through their life time.
They stressed that all hands should be on desk to ensure the end polio project of Rotary club is achieved by administering polio vaccine to children within the age of zero to five years.
