....NAWOJ PARTNERS WITH FOMWAN TO EDUCATE MUSLIM GIRLS ON THEIR WORTH.

October 11 every year is observed as the International Day of the Girl
Child.
In celebrating the day in Warri, the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists NAWOJ, Delta State Council, partnered with the Federation of Muslim Women Association FOMWAN, to organize a forum for Muslim girls, to educate them on their worth as a girl child.
The Nigeria Association of Women Journalusts,NAWOJ, Delta State Council together with the Federation of Muslim Women Association , marched round some major routes in the Warri metropolis to educate the public in the importance of the girl child.
The Delta State Chairman of NAWOJ , Comrade Patricia Gbemudu, represented by her Vice , Comrade Elizabeth Ubiri , said that the girl child has an equal rights with her male counterpart to get educated.
She stated that the issue of early girl child marriage, girl trafficking, sexual abuse on the girl child among other social vices, need to be addressed, adding that the girl child deserves more.
Speaking in a similar vein, the Assistant Coordinator, South South of the Federation of Muslim Women Associationj, Hajiya Lateefa Olaibi, in an interview said that the Muslim faith prioritise the important place of the girl child in the family and the society.
The Delta State President of the Federation of Muslim women Association, Hajiya Hadiza Shaibu said that as a body, they are championing the fight for quality education for the girl child.
Hajiya Rafatu Aliyu in her paper presentation on the importance of the girl child education and its challenges, stated that out of the 13.2 million school age children, not in school, about 7.3 million are girls.
The International Day of the girl child, is a day set aside by the United Nations General Assembly on every October 11 to create awareness for gender inequality and more support opportunity for the Girl Child.
The event which was attended by girls and women drawn faith based Organization featured distribution of sanitary pads to all girls present at the occasion.
