Residents of a bungalow on Edejor Street off Jakpa road Tuesday deserted their homes following the death of one of their neighbours.
The occupants said they were forced to leave their home due to threat of arrest by the Nigerian Police as well as the stench from the decomposing body of their late neighbor.
Correspondent Linus Chima was at the house and filed in this report.
Nobody knew when the lady simply known as Mirabel passed on.
What became obvious was that there was a foul smell pervading the area which drew the attention of neighbours.
As at the time of the report, occupants of the house have deserted the premises for two major reasons, the stench and fear of arrest by the Police.
Neighbours, Mrs Juliet Oghenekevwe, Elizabeth Akpogbome and Adebola Shiltu explained that the dead lady hardly mingled with other tenants in the house as she was often not around.
Narrating what happened they said the lady known as Mirabel or Sister, was sighted Friday evening as she retired to sleep but that the attention of other tenants was drawn to the smell and flies at her window.
According to them, the matter was reported to the police in Ekpan following which those who went to make the report were detained.
Investigations revealed that the police forced open the door Tuesday and collected some personal effects belonging to the lady which could be useful in identifying her and members of her family.
Only investigations by the police will help determine if there was any foul play leading to the death of the lady.
As at the time of the report, those have been released, while plans were being finalized to remove the body of the lady from the house.
