READING CULTURE: WARRI LIBRARY A SHADOW OF ITSELF AS AUTHORITIES APPEAL FOR URGENT INTERVENTION

A library is a quiet and cool facility where people go to study.

The Warri Library though quiet for those who want to read but the facility falls short of up to date books and other reference educational books.

Education correspondent Joelson Esiete was at the Warri Library established more than five decades ago but almost in a shadow of itself.

The Warri Library is located on Swamp road in the oil city.

The reading facility was opened to the public many decades ago.

But over the years, the facility has not functioned optionally as a result of seeming neglect.

The Warri Library which has strength of fourteen has no electricity, portable water while the entire environment is unkept and over grown with needs.

The Warri Library has no convenience facility also.

Deputy Director of the Delta library Broad Warri, Mrs Odiri Ejaeru confirmed the development and appealed to public spirited individuals and organisations to assist.

She also appealed to the chairman of warri south local government Dr Michael Tidi to intervene and employ cleaners and security guards to safeguard property of the library.

While it is not rosy for public comfort, there are fan persons assessing the library.

DRTV News correspondent met four students preparing for examination and two men, one working on a project and the other assessing information.

The library however boasts of reading sections for adults and children.

A section of the library housing where current documents and serial references for government and business purposes under the old Bendel state library board built by joint venture oil companies was commissioned on the 9th of October 1989.

The facility has been overtaken with needs and documents inside vandalised.

For the library in Warri to meet modern day requirement and patronage by members of the public, modern information and communication Technology ICT should be put in place with constant power supply and other comfort that benefits a modern library.
