....... GBARAMATU KINGDOM STATES ITS POSITION ON THE ALLEGED CNL OIL SPILLS*
The Fiyewei of Gbaramatu Kingdom in Warri South West Council Area of Delta State, Chief Godspower Gbenekama has called on the Federal and State Governments to compel Chevron Nigeria Limited to do the needful in addressing the issues of alleged oil spills that affected several communities in the kingdom.
Chief Gbenekama made the call on Monday at a press conference in Warri to state the position of the Ancient. Gbaramatu Kingdom on the alleged oil spills from Abiteye Otunana Macaraba flow stations.
While briefing the media on the stand of Gbaramatu Kingdom as regards the alleged oil spills from the Chevron Abiteye Otunana and Macaraba flow stations, the Fiyewei of the kingdom, Chief Godspower Gbenekama said that the kingdom has carried its investigation and has confirmed the oil spills.
Chief Gbenekama told the press that the oil spills which occurred about six weeks ago was promptly reported to Chevron Nigeria Limited owner of the assets that allegedly produced the spills, adding that the company did nothing but rather said in a press release that the spills are not from its assets .
The Gbaramatu Fiyewei who wondered how an alleged aerial investigation claimed to be carried out by Chevron could ascertain oil spills from the air, demanded that the right thing should be done.
Chief Gbenekama who noted that the Federal Government are losing revenue from the almost four days protest at the Chevron facilities, added that the people are suffering as a result of the spills.
He implored the Federal and State Governments as well as the oil companies operating in the kingdom to be alive to their cooperate social responsibility in ameliorating the suffering of Gbaramatu people.
He however commended the protesting women at the Abiteye Otunana and Macaraba flow stations for their peaceful protest.
The four days protest at the Chevron Nig limited Abiteye Otunana and Macaraba flow stations no doubt has caused the nation loss of revenue, hence it is important that the government, representative of the affected communities and management of Chevron Nig Limited sit together to resolve the issues amicably
