COST OF BUILDING MATERIALS ON THE VERY HIGH SIDE

The cost of building materials are going up daily and many people especially civil servants are concerned if they would ever build a house of their own.

The rising cost of building materials are a source of concern to many people.

The prices of almost all the building materials that were low in prices last year have all skyrocketed.

A bag of cement that sold for two thousand naira or more last year has now shot above four thousand naira.

Equally affected are granite, sharp sand, rods and other building materials.

Some dealers on cement, sharp sand and moulded blocks confirmed the ugly situation  along with other issues affecting infrastructure.

They however noted that the cement industry is plaqued with too many middlemen and  does not give room for competition.

For Mr Edward Umeh, a Stockist, plumbing materials are equally affected and made worst because of unhealthy environment.

He wants the Delta state government to fully enforce its laws to check youth activities scaring away investors and developers.

This frightening situation is worrisome to many Nigerians who struggle through thick and thin to eke a living for themselves and their families.

A retiree from the private sector and a sociologist, Mr Nick Esemudje added his voice to the high cost of living the people face  daily and said for civil servants to own a house of their own is an uphill task.

Mr Esemudje noted that the cost of building materials are high and there is no check system from the government to address the situation.

The land developer sees the country of today as too harsh for the poor to survive and wants government in all tiers to address the hunger, poverty and starvation in the land.
