TREES PLANTING

The increasing rate at
which trees are cut down indiscriminately in Nigeria, with little or no planting culture has been  describe d as something that need to be addressed urgently.

This form the basis of today's news analysis written by correspondent on the importance of  trees planting to humans, the environment and animals.

That news analysis on the importance of trees planting to humans, the environment and animals was written by Omonigho Edah of our reportorial unit.

The process of planting areas of land with trees in order to form a forest is known as  afforestation.

While that of the act of cutting down or burning trees in an area of land is known as deforestation.

Trees from time immorial have been of several benefits to humans, the environment and animals.

Trees are important part of any society as it helps to create peace aesthetic  pleasant environment, increase quality of life, enhances natural elements or widelife as well as serve as historic landmarks and a great source of town pride.

Findings have made us to know that trees contribute immersely to the environment by providing oxygen, improve air quality, climate amelioration, conserving water, preserving soil and     supporting widelife.

Studies have further shown that during the process of photosynthesis, trees takes in carbon-dioxide and produce oxygen which human breath.

According to the US Department of Agriculture "one acre of forest absorbs six tons of carbon dioxide and put out four tons of oxygen.

Futhermore researchers have opined that trees, shurbs and turf also help filter air by removing dust, and absorbing other pollutants like carbon-monoxide,sulfur dioxide and nitrogen-dioxide.

Trees help control climate by moderating the effects of the sun, rain and wind and also fallen leaves from trees makes excellent compost that enriches the soil.

Trees with far reaching roots to the soil are essential to the eco systems in which they reside as they help hold the soil in place as well as fight erosion.

Going by the enormous benefits of trees planting to mankind, his environments and animals, it is therefore expected that Nigerians especially those in the Niger Delta Region where there is much pollution like carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, sulfur dioxide and nitrogen dioxide should learn to engage in intensive trees planting so as to address the air pollution in the area.

Furthermore residents that lives in places that are prone to erosion should cultivate the habit of planting trees with far reaching roots to the soil to help hold the soil as well as fight erosion.

Trees over decade of years no doubt are historic and a source of pride, therefore religious body cutting down old trees or any on the ground of being possessed by evil spirits should cast out the evil spirits rather than cut down the trees.

But if anyone being an individual, a group of persons, or a religious body should cut a tree on any account such persons or religious body should be compared by law to endeavor to plant at least more than one trees as a replacement.

An adherence to these trees planting culture has a far reaching benefits to humanity the environment and to animals.

So the better we as a people start planting trees now the best for us, the environment and animals.
