Indigenes of Egbema and Gbaramatu Communities in Warri South West and Warri North Local Government Areas are to benefit from a number of infrastructural projects like Jetties, Walkways among others in the next few months through self help.
The Chairman of Egbema Gbaramatu Communities Development Foundation EGCDF, Comrade Jude Ukori who disclosed this recently said, the self help project were initiated to complement the State Government efforts in fast tracking development in riverine communities.
Egbema and Gbaramatu kingdoms in Warri South West and Warri North , are one of the highest producers of crude oil and gas, which is the mainstay of the country's economy.
In spite of this huge contributions to the national purse, these areas are grossly under developed and it's residents suffer the devastating effect of oil exploration and gas flaring with little attention from the multinational companies.
In order to solve these twin problems, leaders of the two kingdoms came together to form the Egbema, Gbaramatu Communities Development Foundation, EGCDF.
The EGCDF was saddled with the responsibility of managing funds from their sponsor CNL, execute and inaugurate projects, organize empowerment training for indigenes, help sustain peace in the area among others.
In order to meet the development needs of the people, the EGDCF led by Comrade Jude Ukori decided to award several projects including the construction of jetties and walkways in some of the communities to the tune of over 634 million naira.
Comrade Ukori stated that the gesture was aimed at complementing the efforts of the Delta State government and urged the contractors to execute the projects according to specification and time.
He noted that the foundation was undeterred by the economic hardship caused by the pandemic covid-19, and has met the needs of it's host communities.
Representative of the Programs, Project Review Committee, Mr Victor Elomhao expressed satisfaction that the project when completed will make life meaningful for residents and called for their speedy execution.
As the contractors and leaders of EGCDF sign the contracts agreement, residents of the benefiting communities are waiting with bated breathe for the speedy execution of these projects to ameliorate their suffering.
