VOICE ANALYSIS GOOD FRIDAY

Good Friday is also known as Holy Friday, Great Friday, or Black Friday.

It is celebrated by a number of Christian denominations to ccommemorate the crucifixion and death of Jesus Christ more than two thousand years ago.

Members of many Christian denominations such as Catholic, Eastern Orthodox, Lutheran, Anglican, Methodist, Oriental Orthodox, United Protestant, Celestial Church of Christ and some reformed christian traditions, observe Good Friday with fasting, prayers and church services.

In the Catholic church for instance, apart from the solemnity displayed in prayers, the day is also marked with the dramatization of the events preceding and leading to the crucifixion of Jesus Christ known as  Stations of the Cross.

Scholars have observed that the date for the celebration of Good Friday varies from one year to another in both the Gregorian and Julian calendars.

Nonetheless, many countries across the world declare Good Friday as a public holiday to give people time to properly observe the spiritual importance of the day.

In Nigeria, some churches choose to abstain from eating any type of meat, while a number of others admonish members to fervently fast and pray.

The question however should be, how does the season of Easter help to deepen the understanding and faith of christians in Nigeria as well as improve the society?

Since the begining of the Lenten season, Christians have consistently been reminded of the need to reflect on the significance of the event and shun worldly activities that will hinder the flow of the grace of God on them.

Similarly, they are expected to give hope to  the down trodden rather than oppress them.

As the nation walks into a new political cycle, Christian politicians in Nigeria are being encouraged to emulate Jesus Christ in many spheres.

Politicians, teachers, traders, no matter the profession that people find themselves, as they reflect on the birth, mission and sacrifices of Jesus Christ,  should use their offices as avenues to reduce the suffering of the Nigerian masses.

The bodily injuries and agonizing pains inflicted on Jesus Christ on Good Friday should serve as a gentle reminder to all Christians who suffer health challenges, deprivations, abuse, hunger, poverty, injustice that by His stripes their healing is sure.

Nigeria as a Nation is in dire need of transformation and positive change which are essential to development, peace, security, and a better life.

It is in the hands of each of us, especially those in the positions of authority, to see Christ's death on the Cross and his eventual ressurrection as a clarion call to work towards saving the Nigerian masses from endemic poverty, hunger, deprivation, insecurity and inadequate social amenities that they grapple with on a daily basis.

As these problems get nailed down, Nigerians should be able to look forward to a new dawn when the light of Easter rises with the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
