IMPROVEMENT OF RIVERINE HOSPITAL

CHIEF FAVOUR IZOUKUMOR CALLS FOR IMPROVEMENT OF HEALTH FACILITIES IN THE RIVERINE AREAS AS THE NATION FIGHT COVID 19

A notable Ijaw son from Ogbe Ijoh Warri Kingdom Chief Favour Izoukumor has called on Government at all levels, the Presidential and State COVID 19 Task Force, Multi National Companies operating in the riverine areas to focus on improving the health facilities in the different cottage hospital, so as to help combat COVID 19 should in case the need arises.

Chief Izoukumor made the call recently via a message on his verified tweeter handle on what should be done in fighting COVID 19 in riverine communities in the state, and the Niger Delta Region.

He noted that the Ijaw nation in the state where he represented as a one time DESOPADEC commissioner as well as other riverine council areas in the Niger Delta Region have difficult terrains in transporting patient to urban cities for medication.

Chief Izoukumor who is also the Fiewie of Ogbe Ijoh Warri Kingdom further stressed that most of the cottage hospitals in the areas does not have what it takes to treat anyone that might contract the coronavirus.

He pointed out that rushing someone to Warri or Sapele for treatment will not be the case when the cottage hospitals in the riverine areas operate optimally.

The Ijaw Chief who stressed that he does not pray for any outbreak of COVID 19 in the area, added that proactive measures needs to be put in place to handle such should in case.

Chief Izoukumor commended the Federal and State Governments as well as the NCDC for their efforts in combating the ravaging coronavirus pandemic but appealed to them to also consider the riverine area which have difficult terrain, by sending medical kits like nose masks, hand gloves as well as Personal Protective Equipment PPE to doctors and nurses serving in the riverine hospitals.

He however expressed optimism that Nigeria will win the battle against COVID 19 and therefore advised the Itsekiris and Ijaws in Warri South West Council Area and other riverine dwellers to adhere to various health tips by washing their hands regularly with soap and running water, maintain social distancing, improve on personal and environmental hygiene amongst others clean practice that will make them stay alive.
