Burkina Faso's military leader, who was ousted in a coup on Friday, has formally agreed to step down, religious and community leaders said.
They said the country's new self-declared leader, Capt Ibrahim TraorΓ©, had accepted Lt Col Paul-Henri Damiba's resignation and conditions he had set.
The announcement followed attacks on French institutions, after it was reported that Lt Col Damiba was sheltering at a French military base.
The African Union has demanded the return of constitutional order by July 2023 at the latest, agreeing with the regional group Economic Community of West African States (Ecowas) that the ousting of leader Lt Col Damiba was "unconstitutional.
But Ecowas has since praised "the various parties in Burkina Faso for agreeing to a peaceful settlement of their differences", as days of power struggles came to an end without bloodshed.

Iranian security forces clashed with students at a prestigious university in Tehran overnight, as anti-government protests continue to sweep the country.
Reports said a large number of students at Sharif University of Technology were trapped in a car park as security personnel tried to flush them out.
The anti-government protests erupted three weeks ago, after the death of a woman detained by the morality police.
Mahsa Amini, 22, fell into a coma hours after officers in the capital accused her of breaking the strict law requiring women to cover their hair with a hijab, or headscarf. She died in hospital three days later.
Riot started at her funeral on 17 September and have spread across the country to become the worst unrest seen in the country for years.

European Union's envoy for the South Caucasus and Georgia has called for investigations into videos that appear to show potential war crimes being committed by Azerbaijan and Armenia in recent clashes that have threatened a fragile cease-fire agreement ending the worst fighting between the two neighbors since a 2020 war over the breakaway region of Nagorno-Karabakh.
Baku and Yerevan have been locked in a conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh for years. Armenian-backed separatists seized the mainly Armenian-populated region from Azerbaijan during a war in the early 1990s that killed some 30,000 people.
The two sides fought another war in 2020 that lasted six weeks before a Russia-brokered cease-fire, resulting in Armenia losing control over parts of the region, which is part of Azerbaijan, and seven adjacent districts.
Under the cease-fire Armenia ceded swaths of territory it had controlled for decades, and Moscow deployed about 2,000 troops to the region to serve as peacekeepers.
However, the situation in the region remains tense, with both sides accusing the other of breaking the cease-fire.

Authorities in Ethiopia's rebel-held Tigray region said they had withdrawn fighters from occupied parts of a neighbouring region to counter a major offensive unfolding to the north.
Pro-government forces and rebels led by the Tigray People's Liberation Front resumed fighting in late August after a five-month truce, dimming hopes of peacefully settling nearly two years of war.
The latest upsurge has drawn Eritrean troops back onto the battlefield in support of Ethiopia's federal and regional forces, which are fighting the TPLF on multiple fronts in the country's north.
Tigrayan authorities said late Sunday that a redeployment of fighters from occupied parts of the Amhara region to the south of Tigray was necessary to counter intensifying combat to the north.
Tigray's regional authorities said the withdrawal had been under way for three days and could be reversed if the front came under attack again.

ANALYSIS VOTE BUYING .
Now to the.news analysis.
For some years now, primary elections of political parties, as well as general elections in Nigeria have been highly characterized by vote buying.
This has made it very difficult for voters to elect credible politicians of their choice into public offices at all levels of government.
In today's news analysis, Omonigho Edaah of our Reportorial Unit x-rays the implications of vote buying for Nigeria's democracy.
Cue In: Vote buying is ....
Cue Out...real sense of it.
That news analysis on the implications of vote buying for Nigeria's democracy was written by Omonigho Edaah of our reportorial unit.
WRITE-UP/EDAAH
VOICE ANALYSIS/VOTE BUYING
Vote buying is not new among most Nigerian politicians who want to win elections into public offices at all costs.
The ugly trend has assumed alarming proportions as the electorate publicly sell their voting power to money bags, who most times demand electronic evidences of the ballots cast for them before they pay.
The primaries of the different political parties ahead of the 2023 General Elections in Nigeria and that of the Ekiti 2022 Governorship Elections are alleged to be characterized by vote buying.
Hunger and poverty, as well as the marginal propensity to survive in a harsh economy are some of the reasons people sell their votes to corrupt politicians during primary and general elections.
Observers of the nation's political system have described vote buying as an electoral fraud which portends great danger for Nigeria's democracy, and its developmental pursuit.
Vote buying also helps to slow down the Nation's political process as political opponents use it to contest election results in Court.
It is pertinent for Nigerian electorate to know that their voting power is scared and as such should be cast for candidates with credibility and not to be sold to the highest bidder
They should know that when they sell their votes, they mortgage their future, that of their children and the yet unborn.
This will no doubt go a very long way to denying themselves of serious minded politicians who are willing to serve, and pave the way for greedy politicians who seek public offices to satisfy their selfish interests.
Politicians who buy votes to win elections will want to recoup the money they spent after the election and neglect the development needs of the people for a very long time.
When this happens, the people lose the moral justification to complain about bad governance, which they sold their votes to institutionalize in the first place.
Unfortunately, Nigerian electorate appear to be oblivious of the fact that selling their votes to politicians will plunge them into another four or eight years of pandemic poverty, hunger and suffering, and the cycle is perpetuated by the same politicians through another round of vote buying.
Therefore, the Nigerian electorate should stop selling their franchise. Instead, they should vote for only politicians who have the capacity and competence to deliver on their mandates.
If votes are not up for sale, politicians will not have votes to buy. That way, credible candidates will emerge at party primaries, and national elections will produce political office holders who will hit the ground running and produce positive results at all levels of government.
The time has come for Nigerians to do the right thing by saying NO to vote buying. Politicians should fear God and stop inducing the electorate with money. They should test their popularity at the polls by allowing the people to vote freely.
The electoral umpire INEC and civil society organizations should do more in voter's education by frequently running jingles on radio and television in different Nigeria languages to sensitized electorate on the negative implications in vote buying.
Furthermore the electoral umpire INEC should device a way to discourage vote buying practice in the Nigerian electoral process as well as partnering with EFCC and other financial crime agencies to prosecute politicians and electorate indulging in vote selling and buying, to serve as deterrent to others.
It is only when voters are allowed to vote without being manipulated that an election can be said to be credible, free, and fair in the real sense of it.

LAND DISPUTE: OGHARA TRADITIONAL COUNCIL RESISTS ATTEMPT TO CEDE ITS LAND TO ANYONE
Oghara-
The Ovie of Oghara Kingdom Orefe the third has called on Delta State Government to investigate the alleged handing over of vast expanse of land at Otegbo belonging to Oghara Kingdom to the Nigerian Army.
The Oghara Monarch who made this call during the week while addressing protesters from the community demanded an immediate cessation of the actions and activities of the encroachments in whatever guise or coloration.
These are Chiefs and Olotus from Oghara Kingdom in Ethiope West LGA staging a peaceful protest at the boundary site of the vast expanse of land that has been allegedly given out to the Nigeria Army.
Addressing the placard carrying protesters the Ovie of Oghara Kingdom Orefe the third urged them to remain calm and peaceful expressing optimism that the Delta State Government and other relevant authorities will do the needful.
The Oghara Monarch alleged that the Itsekiris in Warri North local government area had earlier planned to establish a private university known as Warri University on the land in dispute but the Oghara Traditional Council resisted any form of construction and activities being carried out by one Mr Godwin Ebosa on Oghara territory.
He noted that, to their surprised they heard over the print and electronic media that the Olu of Warri Kingdom Ogiame Atuwatse has allegedly offered and ceded the large expanse of land purportedly to the Nigerian Army.
The Oghara monarch added that there is a subsisting judgment in favour of the people of Oghara Kingdom over the land in dispute and investigations is still being conducted by the Delta State Boundary Committee, as directed by the Office of the Vice President of Nigeria for the construction of a military barrack.
Orefe the third appealed to Governor Ifeanyi Okowa to use his good office to stop the cessation of all actions and activities of these encroachments in whatever guise or coloration to prevent breakdown of law and order in the affected area.
He noted that the people of Oghara shall not accept under any guise, the annexation of an inch of her territory to anyone, group or ethnic nationality.
