RIV: How would you feel after undergoing a life threatening medical process to deliver your baby but cannot get access to your bundle of joy?

This is the sad tale of a nursing mother, Mrs Gift Ekong, allegedly prevented from accessing her baby after a caesarean section until she pays her hospital bill of seven hundred and eighty thousand naira.

While appealing for financial assistance from well-meaning Nigerians, Mrs EKong gave the name of the hospital in custody of her child as Mordi Care Hospital Limited, Ajamimogha Warri South, Delta State.

Mrs Gift Ekong, who is married to Mr Emmanuel Utitofon and they are both from Akwa-Ibom, said she gave birth to a baby boy through caesarean section on December 6, 2023, and her good news was short lived when they were slammed with a hospital bill of seven hundred and eighty thousand naira.

The nursing mother said 200,000 naira had earlier been deposited at the said private hospital, known as Mordicare Hospital, Ajamimogha, Warri where her child is allegedly being held in custody.

According to the sad mother, she delivered through CS at Central Hospital Warri but was referred to another hospital because her baby was breathing abnormally.

She and her husband according to her later took the new baby to the said Mordicare Hospital, Warri where she delivered her first child.

Accompanied by concerned friends and neighbours, Mr Ekong is soliciting financial support from the State Government, well meaning Nigerians to enable them pay the hospital bill, discharge and return home.
